Pure Magic: Guitarix + Neural Amp Modeller
It’s been busy since the new year. We had a 3-day weekend and I got some time to myself to mess around with new things. I’m not even a half-decent guitar player. When I’m alone, and I have a drink, I loosen up just a bit and I can make some noise that’s likeable, at least to my ears. I think of myself as a guitar geek more than a guitar player.
I own a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 which I’ve used with some amp modelling software. I’ve always booted into Windows to use this setup, and having moved to Linux, I have hesitated. It sounds decent and I never really made an attempt to setup something similar on Linux, until this weekend.
I installed guitarix (the UI is so good!) and Neural Amp Modeller, channelled my inputs and outputs with some help from qpwgraph. I set up new strings on the guitar, snipped the extras and plugged it into the 2i2. And this sounds insane, especially when you use the Online feature to download patches straight off the guitarix UI! It’s entirely free and open-source! It’s legit one of the coolest things right now.
