Kate is a better IDE than VS Code
Visual Studio Code was a reluctant adoption ages ago when I first tried it. Microsoft makes terrible software but VS Code was an exception. It seemed like they were warming up to opensource. Since about a year back or so, it is lined with AI garbage in every crevice. It is bloated and it is unusable. I have long since opted for Codium, a stripped-down version, with less slop, reduced telemetry among other benefits. I recently tried Kate after a long time and it is superior in every way except for the lack of Jupyter Notebook implementations and getting the output messages printed in the right place is confusing.
Kate is just light-weight, nimble, has enough batteries out of the box. It works smoothly with Zuban. It isn’t based on Electron, runs on multiple platforms, and shortcuts are easy to customize. It’s been better here.
